Groove Lineage at Hobgoblin-Angel-N1, 2007-2011, R.I.P
Obituary
Just a few words for those who hadn’t all ready heard – I / we Groove Lineage, Keep The Faith Events, Ns3fS, Soul Fridays quit Hobgoblin-Angel-N1 a few weeks ago – So please remember – there will be no further KTF, Groove Lineage, NS3Fs Events at Hobgoblin-Angel-N1 for til further notice.
At the start of 2011 new staff & management took over the venue, in brief things did not go well from there. We tried to make a go of it, & tried to point things in the right direction but after exhausting all efforts, long deliberation, receiving feedback from Groove Lineage & Hobgoblin-N1 regulars & considering the ever changing circumstances at the venue – the general consensus was the venue was no longer a place suitable for our Soul friendly events.
I love the place, it’s a great building & couple of rooms, but it’s the people who make the events & that has to start & lead from the staff outwards as hosts to the customers & attendees. It was felt the current vibe is not right place for our Soul fam, perhaps in time things may change & we may return under new staff & management, but for now we must follow our hearts & instincts as events hosts to a different home for the Groove Lineage events.
Groove Lineage started out as a radio show & then became an event, a live show, it has been on in various venue’s across London before it landed at the Hob in N1. The stint at Hobgoblin-N1 was it’s longest, regular show run to date. As is usual in this biz of show during it’s whole stint at the Hob it existed ‘on a promise’, but turned out to be one of the longest running weekly Soul events London had seen.
We had some great nights there, I am proud of what we put on there & what we achieved & what was cultivated during those events & what we nurtured culturally. I learnt a lot there & it definitely allowed me to grow & experiment with many event, DJ set & performance ideas.
Special thanks goes to former manager Liam who supported & facilitated, and most importantly believed in much of what I did there & allowed me to carry out my Eclectic Soul vision week in week out there.
Big thanks also to the members of staff who worked with me week in week out too.
I have fond memories for some special events inc. NeoSoul3rdFridays, Roots2ndFridays, Soca vs Salsa, The Prince ‘Purple Soul’ nights, Fela nights, Marvin, Curtis, Bobby Womack, Roy Ayers & Style Council themes, When Lovers Rock met Motown nights, NYE The Soul Way, Obama-bration celebration nights, Help A Hero nights, UKSoulOrg annual party nights, the release parties for Erykah Badu, Sade, Dwele, Erro, JSoul, Carmen Rodgers – just some of the great special events that went on there.
I play every gig as if it’s my last & inevitably the last gig has to come there too, nothing is for ever – which is why I say attend & enjoy these gigs while they are on.
I had a good run there, I am thankful – thanks to all who were involved in that classic Groove Lineage at Hobgoblin era.
But it’s not quite all over just yet…
As one door closes another opens…
